GratiTuesday

I am trying to better my drive time to and from work so trying lots of different routes. 

Four of spent all morning getting physicals - from blood and urine samples to an EKG and chest x-ray. What's a crazy morning.

Kendall did a fabulous job taking care of CK, and feedung CK, Cirdelua and the fish. He is motivated by $1 a day :-)

Lots of state/capital study for a test tomorrow.

Mindful Monday

And that it was!  My mind was full by the end of the night!  New job, badge, people, benefits, laptop, welcome gift and office. Kendall asked me why I was wearing fancy clothes in the morning :-)  I am leaving later than I hoped for my schedule due to orientation week so I had a lot of traffic home but made it by 5:30pm.

Kendall was not dressed for Tae Kwon Do and he had a lot of homework! We have 2 tests this week in Social Studies and Science. We are struggling with states, capitals and geography. 

And to top it off Kendall received a write up for misbehaving on the bus so he has a castigo for 2 weeks. I also have to replan part of our trip to Costa Rica since a date changed and we were not notified. I am exhausted!

Sunday Soul

We were lector and acolyte this morning and had fun in Sunday School. All our errands were done and we worked on Kendall's health project. I also found an All About Me poster he did this year. 

We did start Lost but I think we may have to wait a year. We were so excited for the Once Upon A Time premiere tonight.

Saturday Social

A good therapy session then a special Tae Kwon Do class with Master Orlando from the World Tae Kwon Do Federation.

We both had hair cuts then went to Lena's 5th birthday party at Milky Way  Farm. We enjoyed pumpkin picking, farm animals and ice cream!  

And we finished Once Upon A Time and ready for the season premiere tomorrow.

Friday Freedom

Last day at AIDHC and it was a busy day which was good. Many thanks for good last day and to Miss Stacey for her gift. The candle matches my bedroom! I was only a little emotional when I turned in my badge.  I am very excited to start the new job Monday - the Molecular Chemistry book I ordered came Friday

We did not make it to Tae Kwon Do but decided on a Once Upon A Time evening.

Surprise Lunch at Work

Since my last full-time day is tomorrow. I loved the balloons and chocolate!

I made a shrimp and pork wonton soup for dinner. Spelling, some crazy exponential multiplication and division and Kendall picked a book called Sidekicks from the library that we started tonight.

And another tooth lost - he lost another one a week or so ago!

September Equinox

Not only does it bring the first day of Fall, but the length of day and night are almost equal at 12 hours each!

Class 2 of Tae Kwon Do, spelling and reading library books. Kendall and I had 2 interesting conversations. The first is when I told him airfare at holiday time was very expensive and Diego and Kevin may not come at Christmas. Kendall told me I should help them. I told him then that would be his Christmas present. He said 'but I'll still get presents.'  It made me laugh because he's right. The second conversation was discussing the exchange of money and knowing what you owe and what you have. I explained you need to know how much money to give and what you should get back. Otherwise someone will take your money. He also asked for a calculator and I told him you need to understand how to do it without a calculator since the calculator can give you the wrong answer. He asked how and I told him that you can enter the wrong numbers so you need to be able to do it yourself.

Mindful Monday

We forgot Kendall's trombone this morning for early band rehearsal. We realized (or I did) when we almost at school. I emailed the band teacher to apologize - luckily she was understanding. We made it to class 1 of 4 at Tae Kwon Do this week. Now onto homwork...

Work Saturday and Sunday

I am ever so grateful for the BEST godparents, Adrienne and Carlos, that took care of Kendall while I worked Saturday and Sunday. They had a great time at the Deveraux Fall Festival Saturday and Church/Sunday School on Sunday. What a blessing this couple is!

A day off - not really...

I work this weekend so Kendall rode the bus to and from school and CK enjoyed the day at daycare. Cordelia and relaxed and I should have gotten more done than I did but I needed a mental health day at least until 4:30pm when I picked up CK.  I did have a wonderful chat with my parents.

We went to Tae Kwon DO and Burger King for dinner since I did not have dinner ready in time. Kendall did spellinag and we studied for a a Science Ecosystems test on Thursday.

5th Grade Recreation Night!

Miss Darby is helping us out tonight since I am working until 9pm. The entire 5th grade is having a fun evening in the gym tonight. Kendall is excited :-)

I also officially took a new job - no evenings, weekends or holidays :-)

Thoughtful Thursday

Kendall has been difficult in music class and his teacher has already contacted me twice.  We are working on a plan to help him in class but Kendall has been warned about the consequences if she feels she needs to contact me again.

I had a great follow up discussion about the new job and I am very excited. Still coordinating 1/2 days and moving some doctor appointments around.

Kendall is excited for his spelling test and he says he is ready so we'll see tomorrow.

All My Sons

Dinner with Miss Deb and Miss Pam followed by All My Sons at People's Light Theatre. A very moving play.

All My Sons is based upon a true story, which Arthur Miller's then mother-in-law pointed out in an Ohio newspaper. The news story described how in 1941–43 the Wright Aeronautical Corporation based in Ohio had conspired with army inspection officers to approve defective aircraft engines destined for military use. The story of defective engines had reached investigators working for Sen. Harry Truman's congressional investigative board after several Wright aircraft assembly workers informed on the company; they would later testify under oath before Congress. In 1944, three Army Air Force officers, Lt. Col. Frank C. Greulich, Major Walter A. Ryan, and Major William Bruckmann were relieved and later convicted of neglect of duty.

Henrik Ibsen's influence on Miller is evidenced from the Ibsen play The Wild Duck, where Miller took the idea of two partners in a business where one is forced to take moral and legal responsibility for the other. This is mirrored in All My Sons. He also borrowed the idea of a character’s idealism being the source of a problem.

The criticism of the American Dream, which lies at the heart of All My Sons, was one reason why Arthur Miller was called to appear before the House Un-American Activities Committeeduring the 1950s, when America was gripped by anti-communist hysteria. Miller sent a copy of the play to Elia Kazan who directed the original stage version of All My Sons. Kazan was a former member of the Communist Party who shared Miller's left-wing views. However, their relationship was destroyed when Kazan gave names of suspected Communists to the House Un-American Activities Committee during the Red Scare.

Labor Day Monday

Today was a work day for me and Kendall had a fabulous day with his godparents - Miss Adrienne and Mister Carlos.  Adrienne sent me this update with photos:

Kendall built a race track, a garage, a parking lot, a monster truck park, and a ramp. We think he might be an engineer or an architect. We watched the first Sponge Bob movie (2004). Our value of the day was respect. 

He was a huge help washing the cars with Carlos. 

We attempted an art project with glue and teal glitter glue. 

We made some brownies and healthy peanut butter cups (no sugar). Kendall taste-tested them.

He had French toast and eggs with cheese, chocolate yogurt, and mango juice for breakfast. For lunch, he had Italian chicken, pasta, and veggies. He led our mealtime prayers. 

Kendall is a true blessing.
