Winter Solstice - officially the first day of winter - occurs when the North Pole is tilted 23.5 degrees away from the sun. When the sun directly hits the Tropic of Capricorn, it will mark the deepenst and longest part of winter. The winter solstice, in a literal sense, marks the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern hemisphere, meaning that despite the cold winter, the days get progressively longer after the winter solstice until the summer solstice in 2018. When Kendall asks me what my favorite holiday is - it is the Winter Solstice because the days start to get longer from today. It reminds me when you are at your darkest, light and hope are coming.
A day off for me, a half day for Kendall with a holiday festival at his school. Kendall prepared a report/powerpoint and map on Navidad in Costa Rica. He did a great job - you may notice that Honduras is at the top of his map and it should be Nicaragua (which we have visited). Kendall did a fabulous job with the map detail.I had fun meeting and talking to Kendall’s teachers and some other parents.
And then a trip to the Allentown area and a great time with the Cardosos.
