The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane

Quick in and out at home and then dinner at John's Pizza with Miss Pam and Miss Deb. Bonus was dinner with Lena and Cassie as well!  Kendall was thrilled.  He also told his teacher about the play evening on Monday and had no homework :-0

This was a wonderful adventure by two-time Newbery Medal-winning author Kate DiCamillo (Because of Winn-Dixie, The Tale of Despereaux), adapted by Dwayne Hartford, featuring music by Erik Hellman and Jessie Fisher (Once on Broadway). As a very dignified china rabbit travels from the arms of a child to the bottom of the ocean, from a trash heap to a moving train, from the streets of Memphis to worlds beyond, this epic journey reminds us of the transformative power of love and friendship. Four actors, a china rabbit and quick scenery changes were magical. 

WHO’S WHO:

THE TRAVELER is the main storyteller, and plays Pellegrina, a Society Lady, Martin, Lolly, Jack, the watchman, an old lady, Marlene, and the doll-mender Lucius Clarke.

THE WOMAN plays Edward’s original owner Abilene, the fisherman’s wife Nellie, Lucy the dog, hobos, Sarah Ruth, Neal, a doll, another old doll, and a shopper.

THE MAN plays Abilene’s father, Amos, the fisherman Lawrence, the homeless man Bull, hobos, the boy Bryce.

THE MUSICIAN voices Edward’s thoughts and feelings.

We did not stay for the Talk Back with actors - Kendall did ask to stay then changed his mind.  On the way out he asked the actor who played the musician and voiced Edward's thoughts and feelings if he could see the rabbit.  We learned there were 4 different china rabbits made specifically for the play and they are one-of-a-kind.   Kendall wants a china rabbit!
