Monuments Nacional Guayabo and Turrialba

Thursday July 3- Some homework this morning. This first photo is from Kendall's summer journal. Kendall drew himself with sunglasses, of course, and then Kevin drew himself. We draw a picture then write a sentence. We did some math before it was time to go to Monuments Nacional Guayabo. A muy bonita viaje (about an hour) through to mountains and farming areas. We went with Kevin, Eduardo, Kattya, Cokie - Eduardo's brother and his wife Mathilde and their grandson Diego.

Monuments Nacional Guayabo is the largest archaeological site yet found in Costa Rica. Largely unexplored, the area contains ancient trails, bridges, water tanks and homesites, as well as petroglyphs estimated to be about 3,000 years old. Guayabo is an ancient of the Pre-Columbian era, situated in the midst of the cloud forests and rain forests of Costa Rica. A stroll through the Guayabo area reveals raised stone foundations, and stone paved roads of unknown length leading off into the surrounding dense foliage. The people of the ancient Pre-Columbian city of Guayabo Costa Rica apparently engineered a complex system of aqueducts to carry water around and through the city. The rain waters still flow thorugh these constructions, and paved roads are still visible receding into the dense surrounding rainforest.  

We had lunch in Turrialba. A wonderful city and the surrounding areas of Turrialba are where I would want to buy a home if I could.  A good word to describe it is enchanting little town of Turrialbe - fertile lands, vibrant green pastures and incredible natural scenery. Agriculture is the principal industry here as well as the only place allowed to produce the popular Costa Rican cheese “Turrialba”. You’ll see an abundance of cattle ranches, milk processing plants, and acres of land for growing Arabica coffee, sugar cane and deliciously large Macadamia Nuts. A very unique highlight of the town is that it manufactures Rawlings baseballs used in the Major league games. 

We did some English homework back at home and had a wonderful family dinner. The family evening continued with conversation and lots of support and love. Muchas muchas muchas gracias por nuestra familia - nos encanta a todos!
